4-year-old Kinder Room
Sunflower Room (4-5+ year old)
Our Sunflower Room is our designated room for our 4-year-old Kindergarten program and is designed to help children develop the skills and confidence they need to transition to their new primary school.
Our Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teachers (Kindergarten Teacher) and educators run a government approved 4-year-old kinder program that has been designed for children to develop essential skills in a supportive and engaging environment, using the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).
As per all other Blossom rooms, the Sunflower Room runs an indoor-outdoor, play-based curriculum where children get the chance to complete fun individual tasks as well as group activities, participate in long-term projects and start to form real friendships.
Learning experiences include:
Physical development
- Enhancing gross motor skills with running, jumping, climbing, and balancing exercises.
- Enhancing fine motor skills through activities like cutting with scissors, threading beads, and drawing.
- Improving hand-eye coordination through ball games, puzzles, and block building.
- Participating in structured outdoor play and sports activities to foster physical health.
Cognitive development
- Engaging in problem-solving tasks such as sorting, matching, and sequencing activities.
- Developing memory and concentration through storytelling, memory games, and puzzles.
- Participating in simple science experiments to understand basic concepts of cause and effect.
- Exploring numbers, letters, shapes, and colours through interactive and hands-on activities.
Social and emotional development
- Learning to share, take turns, and cooperate with peers during group activities.
- Developing empathy and understanding other kids’ feelings through role-playing and discussions about emotions.
- Building self-esteem and confidence by trying new tasks and celebrating achievements.
- Practicing conflict resolution and problem-solving skills in social interactions.
Language development
- Encouraging children to form complete sentences during discussions and sharing time.
- Participating in group listening activities and following instructions.
- Expanding vocabulary through storytelling, reading books, and singing songs.
- Developing early writing skills through drawing, tracing, and writing letters, their own name or simple words.
Creative development
- Engaging in artistic expression through painting, drawing, and crafting activities.
- Encouraging imaginative play through role-playing, dress-up activities and storytelling.
- Exploring music and rhythm with instruments, dance activities and singing songs.
Sensory development
- Engaging in sensory play with different textures, such as sand, water, and textured materials.
- Exploring various sounds and sights through interactive sensory books and toys.
- Promoting taste and smell exploration with safe foods and scents.
